She tore through the Caribbean on that Sunday
The devastation she would sew
As Katrina made her landfall Monday,
Causing pain and suffering more than we know.

Her winds and waves battered N’Awlins.
As the Parishes and the perished washed away
As Katrina through her havoc sprawling.
All that could be done was hope and pray.

But as winds and water settled
Teachers and children found a loving way
to stitch a blanket of hope … As a better way to cope.
Through a pattern with pins and needles to say.

Black, White, Yellow, Red
They’re the colors of our thread
That divinely bind these patches from above.

And through each stitch we are bound
True community spreading round
Mending hearts … touching souls … sewing hope…
Thru our quilt of love.

One by one each patch is sewn
Its fabric ..common … not unknown
not just cotton…. nylon, wool or silk.

It’s the fabrics of our land
Of every woman, child and man,
Weaving strength, faith and character into our quilt.

Which divinely bind our patches from above.

So stand up and yes … stand tall
Let us blanket one and all
With nobility and dignity and love …
